A good way to get started if you are stuck is to ask yourself what if...

Maybe you should watch TV and movies, read a few books depending on genre. If you like what you read or see, try to think of something like it. I'm writing about werewolves because of Twilight; there wasn't a lot about werewolves there. Or, if you like mystery, try Law & Order... fantasy? try Harry Potter... horror? try Goosebumps or really scary creepy horror movies. I think you have to write what you like to read and see. Does any of this help?

I'm not quite sure if you need an idea or not, but it seems like others who have responded to your question have got that one covered. So, i'll focus on a good beginning for an idea you have that you would like to expand into a story.

In order to captivate your readers, you must "hook" them with your first few sentences or paragraphs. The best writers can immerse you completely in the story with one sentence, but the rest of us just have to make do with a paragraph or so.

Here's a few examples of "hook" techniques:

Dialogue-

immerses the reader in the conversation right off the bat.

Example:

"Jack, I don't see why you had to jump that last curb. We almost died!"

Action-

throws the reader into the story with an explosive scene.

Example:

A violet motorcycle came roaring around the corner, scattering frail fall leaves in its wake. It jumped a curb, sending the two black-clad riders flying into the air.

Other methods (which i'm too lazy to think up examples for) include startling facts, scene descriptions or quotes.

Good luck, and happy writing!
