Now now now. All that matters
is the now. Not the times
when your face was not
the only picture frame hung in my mind
and I didn’t hover between
the world of cigarette ash shaped
bruises on my chest and
knuckle shaped bruises
on my head. It doesn’t matter how my
bones ground against each other
and when I asked, you said
you could hear them cracking. You
searched for fallacies in my words
and found them between my legs. You
watched in silence when my pupils
split
in two at the sight of your
fingertips. You said nothing, so
I asked again. You let me drink from
your cup. You took me to the end of
your road and told me to look at
the way the sky bled for us, but
I could only see black and white. There
was a time before I spoke to you when
I knew you. When your eyes did not
glisten with devotion or distaste
they just looked ahead with the
same insipid expression that
catches in my own eyes every
so often. For once I thought
I knew you, I lost you. Once
you came back, I shunned you.
And now I need you. Because
it’s always been you. I just
don’t know to love you
without deifying you
without hating you.

Nice work! This spoke to me in volumes. The importance of second chances sticks out to me, but I like how the tone of this implies that there are still the memories that wont be forgotten.
