The No-Call
Brees stands calmly in the pocket
he lobs the ball softly to the right side,
the football takes its sweet time
the receiver Lewis has nowhere to hide,
here comes the defensive Robey-Coleman
running with a full head of steam,
determined to stop the play
to help fulfill the Rams’ dream,
the helmet-to-helmet hit sounds a thunderous crack
fans are begging for the flag,
treacherous moaning and boos
the Saints should’ve had the call in the bag,
sadly, the “No-Call” will never be forgotten
hearts were ripped out with no forgiveness
players and fans desired that Lombardi trophy
but were only left with the gut-wrenching sickness

I wrote my poem about the New Orleans Saints vs. the Los Angeles Rams 2019 NFC Conference Championship game. For those of you that know, the game ended with a bizarre no-call by the referees that cost the Saints the game, and a shot at the Super Bowl. As a Saints, it hurt a lot to watch the game end like that. Hopefully the Saints can redeem themselves next year and win the Super Bowl.
