Pops

A grandpa we called Pops

His love for his family and his LSU Tigers was nonstop.

He loved to sing and dance to make us smile,

Always including an LSU shirt into his style.

He worked hard at a bank in order to provide

There to pick me up from school with a smile when I needed a ride.

A man of his word,

He loved to take care and be a backyard for the lonesome bird.

He exhumed kindness and was a friend to all he met,

One of the greatest influences I have met yet.

Pops never had a bad thing to say,

Being around him, one could never feel gray.

His love for “Pellegrino” drinks and Tiramisu cake,

He would rewatch LSU games and keep us awake.

Oh how he would have loved to see LSU beat the Crimson Tide,

I know he was watching and smiling down from up high.

Everyone knew him as their good friend,

He was someone who I enjoyed spending time with until the very end.

A grandfather and a role model for me,

My Pops is someone I hope and strive to be.

The author's comments:

This poem is written about my Grandfather, "Pops" who passed away a little less than a year ago today. He was a great role model in my family's life and was a joy to be around always. I wrote this poem as a way to remember all the good times we shared and the things about him that stick out in my mind and make me miss him most.
