A Letter to My Parents
I looked the devil in the face
and I made it home safe
You don't scare me when you say
I won't see another day
I promise I ain't stupid
I've just seen worse than what you did
and I've got no fear of death
no dying wishes on my breath
Your arrows cannot pierce me
for I've grown skin far too thick
and your words they do not scare me
I'm master of dialect
You can not fight me with pure rage
Gonna have to act your age
Darling you could tear my flesh away
Just to love me for a day
I've known hatred and fear
anger and mirrors
I've known sadness and pain
misfortune and gain
But trust me when I say
I've never known love, to this day
