I'm Sorry (What Happened)

What happened last night
Wasn't sposed to happen at all
Oh, oh
What happened last night
Was that I dropped the ball
Oh, oh
I try and keep my face straight
Staring at you
And speaking the truth
What happened last night
Wasn't sposed to happen at all

What I said this morning
You were never sposed to hear
Oh, oh
What I said this morning
Was that I forgot you were near
Oh, oh
I try and keep the same face
For when I stare at you
And speak the truth
What happened this morning
You were never sposed to hear

And I have to say

I'm sorry
I messed up
I broke my promise
I'm sorry
I gave in
I listened to the little voices
It'll never matter if she doesn't know
That's not where I wanna go
I'm sorry
I'll try again

What you heard today
Was never sposed to come to light
Oh, oh
What you heard today
Was that I didn't sleep well last night
Oh, oh
Even so that's no excuse
For ripping your head off
I know that's true
What you heard today
Was never sposed to come to light

What I said to you
Was never sposed to come from my mouth
Oh, oh
What I said to you
I shouldn't have brought into the house
Oh, oh
I know it was totally unfair
'Specially if I'm grumpy
I gotta beware
What I said to you
Was never sposed to come from my mouth

I'm sorry
I messed up
I broke my promise
I'm sorry
I gave in
I listened to the little voices
It'll never matter if she doesn't know
That's not where I wanna go
I'm sorry
I'll try again

I know I never should've said anything
Should have kept the words in my head
I should never have even thought them
Maybe my mind should've stayed in bed
I know I can be better
You should know it too
Give me another chance
To find a better way to treat you

I'm sorry
I messed up
I broke my promise
I'm sorry
I gave in
I listened to the little voices
(that say:
It'll never matter if she doesn't know)
That's not where I wanna go
I'm sorry
I'll try again

Oh, oh, oh
I'm sorry
Let me try again
Oh, oh, oh
I'm sorry
Let me try again
(2x)
I'm sorry

The author's comments:
This was inspired by watching "Bottle It Up" by Sara Bareilles. I'm imagining that same kind of rhythm for this song, if I ever manage to put music behind the lyrics.
