Where the Strawberries Grow

Come with me to see where the strawberries grow
Come with me past the town
Skip past the houses all painted in bright colors
Their faces all rainbow like clowns

We're going past the edge of the forest
We'll walk for a while and then some more
In between the trees and the water
Then straight down to the lakeshore

Beyond the mirror when the sun sets
The grass is cast in a golden glow
In the twilight after when the stars come out
A friendly twin to the moon begins to show

Sit with me at the lake's edge
Dangle your feet in the water
With our smiles and contented gazes
And our backs against a boulder

Then when we've rested, we'll go on
Down the path that runs close to a creek
Over the bridge of slippery stones
Hold hands so as to keep our feet

Then the meadow is beyond
With the forest still continuing at its back
A wall of trees and sea of green
With sunlight streaming in between the black

This is where the strawberries grow
After the town has been left behind
In the semi-wilderness of lush grasses
Sweet red delights you'll find

Fill your basket without stuffing your face
Mama will scold us if we're not back in town
In time for supper as she wants us to eat
We need the light of day before the sun goes down

I've kept this as a secret place
So keep mum if anyone asks you
"Where do the strawberries grow?"
This is a special place for just us two
