Pack three pairs, my mother told me
You’ll be walking far
I shoved them all into my suitcase
And hitched it in the car
We rode in silence except for the sound
Of my feet tapping against the car door
You’ll be needing good walking shoes
That’s what walking’s for
These boots are made for walking
Ran all through my head
Until we reached our destination
And I wore my hi-tops instead
Now I’ve developed a love-hate relationship
With those quaint cobblestone streets
Cute and old-fashioned, for sure
But I have blisters on my feet
My hi-tops were ripped and torn
And totally deformed of their frame
My shoes were gone, I sighed and said
Only two pairs remain
My boots are surely adorable
As are the red-brick roofs
But I learned too late, I’m afraid
My boots aren’t waterproof
Another pair of shoes gone
We’ve only been here a week!
But my boots were soaked beyond repair
And the left one had started to leak
My flats are already uncomfortable
And they are the last pair
That I’ve packed in my suitcase
And now have to wear
I walked for miles on end to sightsee
And now I’m paying the toll
My aching feet don’t thank me
Italy, you’ve stolen my heart and sole
