Favorite Quote:
"chemistry between people is the strangest science of all" - Bridgett Devoue

look up at the stars
you whisper in my ear
twin smiles scamper across
our faces as the Gemini
pulls us upwards
in unison to view
its constellation

it’s beautiful
soft voices from me, from you
our escapade feels forbidden
but the beauty is unmatched
undocumented,
we were explorers locating
undiscovered territory

take my hand
i murmur softly and extend
my fingers, thousands of meteors
exploding as you reciprocate
my movements and grasp
tightly, a stark contrast
of your coffee-colored hands
against mine, colored
the tint of the waxing moon
shimmering above us

come closer
you shift,
crushing the space that resides
between us and
our noses touch, my pale freckles
colliding with your soul’s
cacao-colored clothes I
fell deep into a hole for–
a hole I cannot escape
but it’s alright because
tonight, you are down here with me

we sway
back and forth, careful
to avoid our shoes
but we do so unsuccessfully

we forgo
our hopes of dancing
along the backroads
and instead, lie by its shoulder
because our dreams are merely fantastical
and we don’t mind

we like
the stars and the show
that the galaxy provides for us
it’s magnificent–
transcendental

we trace
constellation after constellation
following the delicate
paths astronomers have
outlined carefully,
creating paths of our own when
stars stray and
tumble out of place, they leave a
stream of stardust behind
and time slows

no cars rush past.
we are swallowed by the silence,
and we love it.

The author's comments:

my favorite part of this poem is the sweet mention of a soul's clothes – i love the idea of falling in love with someone's soul instead of their clothes or appearance. someone's personality, emotions, and ideas are what makes them interesting, not their looks.
