"chemistry between people is the strangest science of all" - Bridgett Devoue

I’m crying and it won’t stop

they keep falling out with unfathomable accuracy

and me being vertical

they drop nicely behind my ears

like the tips of sunglasses

slicing with frigidity while

I stare above at the dying Sky

knowing that no one will

ever see this same Sky

and in any other circumstance

it would make me feel unique

but tonight, all I feel is lonely

with ambient light threatening the

Sky’s ephemeral beauty my

transcendentalist inner self throws

memory after memory on top of me

that seem to scream

insignificant

as though I can’t and will never

do anything to stop the hostile light

from destroying my beloved Sky

and the painful part is

the truth in the thoughts

The author's comments:

i love the sky, but sky is also my sister's nickname and I feel that this poem can be interpreted in two different ways – the first being as a soliloquy to the sky above us. the other: the sky is a metaphor for Sky, the beautiful girl, who is fading away and the speaker can't bear to watch it happen.
