I dreamt that you broke my heart
& it didn't hurt, not even a little
as if it functioned better
when completely unrestrained
the screen door shuts with a creak
& here I was hoping I'd never see you again
you were a cut beginning to fester
The infection nagged me now & then
Your high horse is bowing down
the pedastel you poised yourself upon
came crumbling down
I've seen all the phases of the moon
whilest holding your hand
but now that its intwined in my own
its as if ithe moon is twice as bright now
cast out from beneath the shadow you cast
just like how you swallowed any light I gave off
convinced that I burned too bright
it is me that doesn't feel at all
or the bars that held me too tight?
you trap me the way reigns enslave a stallion
I dreamt that scars were lovely
that they proved my battles were real
that the smiles that masked pain
were prettier than the ones I faked
& yet the marks are just memories that remain
like wrinkles trace time and worry
our skin becomes a map of our lives
but we forget to see it that way
a heart covered in scars
is no more beautiful than what caused them
oh how I wish scars were lovely.
