"One day, your life will flash before your eyes; make sure it's worth watching."

These poisoned days pass slowly,
dragging on,
infected blood running through my veins,
ever-present in my pulse.
Some sicknesses are attained through time
or aging,
but I was unfortunate enough
to be diagnosed since childhood,
since I first touched that swing-set,
played with trucks in sandboxes,
read about dinosaurs,
and ran around in my mother's clothes,
too big on my small frame,
pretending to be someone I wasn't;
you, pretending alongside me all the while.
It can't be cured:
Lord knows that I have tried.
Burning my skin,
ripping myself apart -
nothing works.
The infection is deep in my system,
buried in my blood stream,
and I'm afraid to say
that after all these years -
seventeen years of fighting the rivers that my blood forms,
breaking any bridges that could let more of the disease in -
my strength was not enough.
Now, the infection has been altered:
it has mutated and grown
moving at a pace much greater than the speed of light,
and after seventeen years
the infection
has reach my heart
