"One day, your life will flash before your eyes; make sure it's worth watching."

Her body lit up like the festival of lights,
the only things keeping her grounded, unlike the fireworks,
were the pills that she flirted with three times a day,
ten tablets a pop.
They were colorful, like flower petals:
she picked them each carefully,
treated them with care.
Sometimes she felt like a child,
lost in a meadow, plucking daisies
ripping off the petals.
Other days she felt the pills were scratches on a prison-cell wall,
numbering down the days,
only prolonging the inevitable.
She didn't like to think that way,
but with consumption comes side effects:
with coffee, it's sleepless nights,
and with sweets, it's fat -
the side effect of pills just happens to be depression and illness:
the very things you are trying to escape
by agreeing to take them
in the first place
