As I open A Thousand Splendid Suns, my expectations are high; after KiteRunner, I expect an enthralling, stirring plot from Hosseini.

I am not disappointed. From novel to novel, Hosseini has improved his art- his casting of characters has subtly increased but he portrays emotions in the same milky short lines.

The book, like KiteRunner, is set in the conflicting political situations of Afghanistan. As KiteRunner centred on caste differences, this revolves around the oppression of women and the bonds which bind the gentler sex together. It will pull every string in your heart, move you to tears and I highly recommend it.

This book should be read only by teenagers 13 and above, and then only by parental permission, since Hosseini uses strong language in some situations and some mature matter is graphically written.

A last word- a must-read!
