Summary:

In 8th grade, I didn’t think I was a particularly good singer and that if I were to audition for a musical, I would be lucky to get a small part. When I auditioned, I ended up getting the part of Sour Kangaroo, the main antagonist. I was so nervous because the Sour Kangaroo solos were difficult and I wasn’t sure if I was capable of doing them. Much to my surprise, I pulled it off! I repeatedly did the solos for the most challenging song, Biggest Blame Fool, but eventually, the expectations I set for myself were too high and I ended up sounding shouty as I had feared. When the music director reassured me that what I was doing before was enough and that I wasn’t shouty before, I ended up giving the best performance on stage I had ever done. My relationship with singing had completely transformed and now, I’m in a musical and I feel much more confident in myself and my voice.
