I can see flakes in the air. Three kids stand, heads down, quiet, and shy. I have never met them, yet I know how they feel. I must look ridiculous in this yellow coat.
“Hi guys, are you ready?” I boldly say as I lower myself to their eye level. I never get a reply. They need inspiration. I lean forward and flex my board.
“You guys wanna learn to nose press?”
Eyes widened and I see a smile. I can tell.
Their flames are lit. Now they—just like me—are snowboarders for life.
