They Are Lonely MAG

By Anonymous

They Are L o n e l y by Teresa Smith, Auburn, NYI am lonely. No one understands how I feel. I can't find that "soul mate" everyone is supposed to have, he thought bitterly. He sunk his head deeper into his folded arms and felt sorrier for himself. Resting his chin on the hard table, he glanced at the clock at the front of the library. Only 20 minutes left. When he turned back toward the table, she caught his eye. She was plain, but something about her sparked his interest. Should I talk to her? he asked himself. No, she could never understand me.Meanwhile, she had noticed him and contemplated approaching his table. She stopped herself too, though. He could never understand me.The bell rang and people shuffled out of the library. They didn't give each other another look, even when they crossed paths as they walked out the door. As they passed one another, they both thought, I am lonely. What a couple of morons. 1
