The Wave
They saw him running towards the alley on Sunset drive and as they followed him into the alley way, they realized there was no sign of him here and that he vanished. They searched from dumpster to dumpster, garage to garage, and house to house, but there was no sign of him anywhere. Our team, which was, Chris Rogers, Ryan O’Connor, Kai Kelly, and Ashley Duncan have been looking for this serial killer for 1 week now and every time they got close to catching him, he slipped right through our fingers and vanished into thin air. they headed back to our headquarters in Waikiki, Hawaii. they gathered all possible evidence they had on this guy and ran it for fingerprints and looked at all possible associates he had on the island. As they were running a wallet found on my dead brother’s body, a fingerprint came up and it belonged to a man that goes by the name Jake Smith. “He served two 5 year sentences at Halawa Prison. One of them was for armed robbery and the other one was for accessory to murder” Ashley stated.
“This could be our serial killer. I want his house locked down by SWAT and no one goes in or out” Chris exclaimed.
“I’m on it” Kai stated. Kai stormed out the door after calling SWAT and headed to Jake Smith’s residence. Chris, Ryan, and Ashley left headquarters about 5 minutes after Kai left to meet him at the house. When they got there what Chris wanted all came true. The house's perimeter was locked down, SWAT was all there with their guns aimed at the front of the house. The captain of the SWAT team, Captain Blake Jennings, had a heat detector system setup so that any movement made inside the house by a person could be detected by Blake and his team. Chris and Ryan walked over to the captain. “Any movement?” Chris questioned.
“Indeed there has been,” Blake continued, “My team is trained on his position and all we need is a green light to shoot.”
“I don’t want to shoot, I want to charge the house and bring him out alive to question him” Chris barked.
“Alright, i’ll get my team to charge the house” Blake promised. Blake then motioned for his team to come over to his squad car to get the directions on how to approach the house. “Our suspect may be armed and dangerous, approach with caution and use good suspect ID. Do not ambush unless you know it’s for sure him!” Blake yelled. The team then disassembled and approached the house silently. Rogers and O’Connor followed closely behind the SWAT team. As soon as they got to the door, Rogers did a count to three and kicked down the door to the house. They then charged inside the house and searched all rooms in the middle level and the upstairs. They saw no sign of him. O’Connor ordered the SWAT team to exit the house and that they would take it from here. Chris motioned O’Connor to the basement door. They approached it with silence and cautiously fidgeted with the basement door handled and managed to open the door without any noise being made. As they began to go down the stairs they then were welcomed by 4 gun shots that just missed Ryan’s chest. They were pinned down. The SWAT team, who was just walking away from the house, heard the gunshots and rushed back into the house. They sprinted to the basement door where Ryan and Chris were laying on the stairs on their backs, still in shock by the gunfire. “You guys okay?” One of them asked.
“Yeah, just a little shaken up” Ryan squealed.
“We have our suspect downstairs with a 9mm pistol. Approach with caution” Rogers demanded. Then, SWAT charged down the stairs. The suspect was shocked he shot 3 rounds at our team, but then was out of bullets. SWAT screamed, “Throw your weapon towards us, get on your knees on the ground, and put your hands behind your back! You’re under arrest!” The suspect did everything SWAT told him to do. SWAT cuffed him and accompanied him up the stairs and put him in one of the police cars at the scene. Ryan and Chris followed SWAT out the doors. They were immediately ambushed by Ashley and Kai asking if they were okay. “We’re fine, just another day on the job, nothing big” Chris laughed. The ride back to headquarters was silent, but the silence was drowned about the radio station they were listening to. When they arrived at headquarters, Ashley and Kai headed up to the main office to see if there have been anymore hits on our evidence or anything. Chris and Ryan headed down to the interrogation room to interrogate the guy from the house. The door creaked open and Jake Smith sat in the silver, metal chair sagging in his seat with his head looking at the floor. He had brown hair, hazel eyes, a scar under his left eye, and spiky hair. When he looked up at Chris and Ryan there was blood trickling down from his nose and his upper forehead. He looked at them and gave them a nasty glare. Chris asked, “You know him?” and showed him the dead person’s picture. Jake looked up at the phone and didn’t say a word. “I asked you a question!” Chris exclaimed. No answer. “I’m gonna ask you one more time, and if you don’t answer, i’m gonna make sure you never see your kids again” Chris hinted. There was a pause but Jake finally muttered, “Alright, what do you want to know?”
“I wanna know how your fingerprints ended up on our dead vics wallet, who happens to be my partner's brother” Chris snarled.
“Alright, you wanna know what happened” Jake confessed.
“Yes” Chris requested.
“Alright so I saw him at the bar I was at about 1 week ago. We bumped into each other and his wallet fell out of his pocket, so I picked it up and gave it back to him,” He continued. “Then after that there was nothing else.”
“Okay, what was the name of the bar you were at?” Chris questioned.
“Glitter Bar” Jake responded.
“Okay if this alibi checkout, your in deep water” Chris inquired. Jake then went back to slumping in his chair and hanging his head. Chris and Ryan proceeded out the interrogation room. They were walking down the dim lighted, rundown hallway. “Do you believe what he said?” Ryan asked. There was a long pause between the question and the response. “I don’t know” Chris sighed. They continued down the hallway in silence. When they got up to the main office, Kai and Ashley were talking back and forth about something. Kai looked towards Ryan and Chris and said, “We got something.”
“Okay, talk.” Chris muttered.
“I ran through the TSI databases and found someone that looked familiar. It turned out to be Gunner Abrams. He’s wanted by the FBI for murder and treason. He murdered three people on the mainland. He got here last week. He got here last Tuesday and then the next day, the murders began happening.”
“He looks like the guy from the alley the other day” Chris snarled.
“Yeah, I ran his credentials and he checked into a hotel 2 hours ago under the alias Peyton Jones ” Kai stated.
“He’s got to be our guy! What hotel?” Chris asked.
“Hawaii Prince Hotel in Waikiki and room number 2749” Kai responded.
“Okay me and Ryan will head over there” Chris stated. Chris and Ryan then turned and charged out the door. They headed down the stairs and out the doors to Chris’ black porsche. Chris got in the driver's seat and Ryan got in the passenger's seat. They raced over to the hotel and it took them about 5 minutes. As soon as they got there, they got all the people at the hotel to leave the hotel. The people scampered away without question once they saw their guns. Chris and Ryan raced up to the second level of the hotel and went to room number 2749. Chris and Ryan stopped running immediately when they got to the door. They leaned up against the wall on both sides on the door. Ryan was on the left and Chris was on the right. Chris and Ryan both looked up at each other. Chris did a three count on his fingers and mouthed the words without letting anything come out. One… two… three… On the count of three Chris kicked down the door to the hotel room and Ryan followed behind him. They moved throughout the hotel room searching each room. As Ryan was approaching the bedroom door, he realized it was closed. “Over here Chris” Ryan said. Chris made his way over to Ryan. Chris slowly opened the door. As they went inside they were blinded by a smoke grenade. After the grenade went off Chris and Ryan heard footsteps. They squinted to try to make out who it was. They saw a faint male figure with a gas mask on but couldn’t make anything else out. They were then were both struck in the head by a metal pole. They were both unconscious. Meanwhile back at headquarters, Kai and Ashley were trying to reach Chris and Ryan but they had no luck. “What do you think happened?” questioned Ashley.
“I have no idea. They’ve been gone for 2 hours. It’s now 7:30 at night. Let’s go look for Chris and Ryan at the hotel” Kai hinted.
“Alright, i’ll drive” Ashley inquired. They got to to the car as fast as they could. They revved up the engine and sped over to the hotel where they met the SWAT team. “We have no sign of either of them” Blake said. There was no response from Kai or Ashley. Kai managed to get out, “Okay. Ashley, you, two of your guys and I will go up to the room Rogers and O’Connor are supposedly in.”
“Where are we Chris” asked Ryan. He looked around and was in a square, colorful room with a bed in it. That’s all Ryan could make out.
“I don’t-” Chris was cut off by a deep, raspy voice from the distance.
“Welcome Detective O’Connor and Commander Rogers. I have been waiting for you” threatened the unknown man.
“Who are you and why are we here?” Chris asked.
“”I’ll ask the questions here” he replied.
“Okay, what do you want with us” Chris snapped.
“I don’t want anything with you” the unknown man said. He then emerged from the darkness and Chris and Ryan realized it was their man Gunner Abrams.
“I hope you know my whole team is outside and on their way up to this room and they will kill you” Chris stated.
“I don’t plan on getting out of here alive” Gunner smirked.
“Then why are we here” Ryan asked.
“Because I want to end my life with a bang by taking out Hawaii’s 2 top cops” Gunner snarled. Gunner approached Chris and Ryan with a knife in his hand. Gunner then plunged the knife into Chris’ leg. Chris let out a blood curtling scream. Gunner let it sit there for 2 seconds and then yanked it out. He cleaned the knife off with a blue cloth that was already stained with blood. Chris’ leg was spewing out blood and Ryan didn’t know how much longer Chris would hold out.
Ashley, Blake, Kai, and the two SWAT members geared up for the ambush with ammo and kevlar. “Okay, let’s head up” Ashley barked. The team charged into the hotel and got everyone out. They headed to the elevator and got in. As soon as the doors to the elevator closed the elevator music began playing. Ashley said that it was rather soothing. They waited for the elevator to make it’s way up the building to floor 2.
The carpet under Chris was now stained by the blood pouring out of his leg. “Hey, we are going to get out of here and it’s going to be okay” Ryan whispered.
“I don’t know Ryan, my leg is pretty bad now” Chris whimpered.
“You’ll be fine. Ashley and Kai are probably on their way up now” Ryan said. Chris looked at Ryan and looked away.
“You look pretty bad” Gunner laughed.
“You’re not going to get what you want” Chris said.
“Yes, I will” Gunner bragged. Chris saw a pistol in Gunner’s right hand.
“What are you going to do with that” Ryan questioned.
“This is going to kill both of you starting with you” Gunner threatened. He approached Ryan and raised the gun and aimed it at his forehead.
“Anything else you wanna say” Gunner said. As Gunner’s hand tightened around the trigger, the door to the hotel room was kicked down. Gunner turned around to see Ashley storm the room. Gunner raised the gun again. He took the gun off safety and c***ed it back. His hand tightened and Ryan closed his eyes and embraced himself for the worst. A shot rang out and Ryan opened his eyes to see Gunner’s body crumble to the floor. He then saw Blake lower his gun and untie me and Chris. “Chris has a knife wound. take him to the emergency room” Ryan stated.
“Alright, the two SWAT leaders put Chris’ arms around their shoulders and got him into the ambulance as soon as they could. Ryan, Blake, and Ashley followed them out. When they emerged out the door of the hotel room, a stretcher came at them to put Chris on. He was then lifted into the ambulance and taken to the Emergency Room. Ryan and the others walked over to the SWAT car. “Chris got pretty roughed up” Ashley confessed.
“Yeah he was definitely our guy” Ryan said. When Ryan finished his sentence another stretcher came out of the hotel this time it was a body bag with Gunner in it.
“At least we can sleep easy tonight” Blake joked. The rest of them grinned. The vehicle’s at the scene began to leave the hotel and so did Ashley, Kai, and Ryan. They rode over to the ER to go see Chris. When they got there they went to Chris’ room.
“How you doin buddy” Ryan mumbled.
“Eh, i’m hanging in there” Chris muttered. There was a pause and then Chris managed to get out, “Just a bad day at the office.”
