The Key Master
Even knowing his car had issues, Chase decided to go out for a drive anyway. When Chase reached the highway, he felt an odd feeling in his car. Chase, known for his long wavy hair which reminded people of the ocean waves, and his problem-solving autonomous self, couldn’t tell the issue. Perhaps it was the fact that he was driving an old rusted banal green Honda, but even Chase was flummoxed about what the issue was.
There’d been no lights on the car dashboard flashing to signal that there was an issue, and there’d been nothing that could be seen that could be the issue. “What could it possibly be,” Chase thought to himself. After a few minutes of contemplating his next move, Chase decided to better be safe than sorry and headed back home. When Chase arrived at his home or what he called paradise, he checked his car.
“Nothing,” Chase mumbled to himself after checking everything imaginable in his car and finding no issues. He decided to give up and call it a day, so he headed inside his home. A few hours later after lying in bed for a while, he began to ascend into illustrious never-ending immaculate dreams. The next morning when Chase woke up, he did his daily routine. Once he was done, he made coffee which trapped the house with black coffee's distinct smell. As Chase prepared for his morning, he put on his work clothes and grabbed his house keys.
Now, Chase rarely made mistakes so this would be a shock. Every morning, the same routine, he headed out to his car in the garage and grabbed his car keys. The issue here is that he had two sets of keys, his home keys and his car keys.
His house keys had the key for his house which he’d hardly ever use since he had a keypad on his front door. His car keys, however, had not only the keys to his car but his keys to his work office. Every day he’d place his car keys on the left key chain and his house keys would remain on the right. Chase never grabbed the wrong set of keys, it was instinct for him at this point to grab the keys on the left, but not today.
As Chase opened his garage door and got in his car, he attempted to start his car by using his keys. His car key and house key looked eerily similar with the only difference being the key pattern. Chase wasn’t that memorable though to remember every pattern on his keys. “What’s going on,” Chase said after his key wouldn’t start his car. He attempted to fiddle with his keys for a few minutes before giving up on his final attempt.
As the minutes passed, it felt like the time would keep adding on, eventually making Chase feel like he was lost at sea. He didn’t know what to do, he couldn’t miss work and his car wouldn’t start. Chase decided to check his engine, oil, gas, motor, check whatever he could that would maybe be the issue. “BANG! BANG! BANG!” was the sound made when Chase smashed his fist into the abyss he created in his wall.
Sure, he would regret his decision, but he was filled with a wave of anger he’d never felt before, a spark that led to flames, flames which led to a wildfire, the wildfire leading Chase to a dark place he’d never been to. Chase just sat down next to his car, feeling as worthless as he could possibly be. Chase went inside but just as he was going to give up, he saw his mistake. His car keys were on the left key chain, his house keys weren’t on the key chain, but in his hand instead.
“HAHAHAHA!” Chase burst out laughing due to his mistake and replaced his house keys with the car keys. A few minutes later after cooling down, Chase went back out to his car, used the proper keys, and started his car up.
