Cleaning My Garage
I was hanging out watching my favorite show, Gravity Falls, while my parents were at work. It was around one o’clock and I felt like being a good person. I was trying to find something to do to help out my parents who work all of the time, Then I realized that they have been wanting to clean the garage for the past six months.
First, I got some cleaning supplies and went out to the garage. I started by putting the stuff that was on the ground outside on the driveway. I thought that it was really quiet so I decided to turn on some music. I turned on my favorite playlist that I made called “Stufffffff”. I started sweeping the floor, and it was obvious that it has not been swept for the past three years. When I got to the far left corner where a rug was, there was something that I couldn't forget about.
It was a secret hatch that was in the cement of the floor. I tried to forget about it as much as I could by finishing cleaning. Then I did forget about it until I had had to lay the rug down over it. And being my curious self, I opened it. Inside were about 10 different shoe boxes. There was an Adidas, Tims, Vans, Nike’s, and UGGs. They all had nothing in them, and I was about to give up until I found one that had to have weighed 10-15 pounds. I opened it and I couldn’t believe what I found.
I opened the dirt and dust covered Adidas shoe box and found money, it had to have been around 20,000 dollars. I was in complete shock. I didn't know what to do with it so I ran inside and put it under my bed. Since I finished cleaning the garage, I was hungry so I made dinner. I made Chicken Enchiladas, that were really good. I used my grandma's old recipe that has been passed down through five generations. After that I didn't know what to do and so I decided to count the money in the box.
I was counting for about 20 minutes and I was at 34,000, and I didn’t know what to do with all that money. I kept counting until I got to the end of it. There was a total of 40,000 dollars In that box. I didn’t know if I should talk to my parents about it or not. I am wondering if they know about it or if they had no idea it was there. I am guessing they had no idea because we probably would have given me some to put in my college fund .
My parents got home, so I closed the box and put it under my bed. I ran out of my room into the kitchen before they were able to see me. I asked them how work was and then we were talking about what we did all day. I mentioned that I cleaned the garage and then they looked at each other and had a scared look on their faces. They asked if I found anything that wasn’t normal. I said that I found a weird door.
I also mentioned that I found a ton of shoe boxes and that there was one that was really heavy. I told them that I didn't open it yet but I put it in my room. They told me to go get it, so I went and picked up the shoe box that had to weigh about 15 pounds. I brought it to the table and opened it. I acted like I was surprised and they believed it, I thought that they would have caught me, knowing that I wasn’t actually surprised. Then I asked them what it was from, they started explaining.
They told me that the people that lived in our house before us won the lottery when it was at 1.6 billion dollars and they would hide money in random places to keep it hidden so people wouldn’t come to there house and find it. Their names were John and Patricia Davis. When they won the lottery, John was 49 and Patricia was 47 so they were still pretty young. They gave a total of two million dollars to family members for college, new houses, paying off debt, and anything else like vacations. This money helped them a lot with different expenses that they needed to pay.
Before they won the lottery, John was fighting of coronary artery disease and to stay alive, he had to go to the hospital once a week to get it treated. They already had a lot of debt from that and then Patricia needed surgery to get her appendix taken out after it ruptured. They didn’t know how to pay for it so they put it on a credit card. When they won the lottery, they were so thankful that they were able to pay off all of their debt.
They bought a new house in Florida that they got built for them. It is a very different looking house. It has a cool walkway up to the front door. Let’s just say that delivering packages to that house would be very tiring. They were very happy and John’s coronary artery disease was gone by the time they moved into the new house and Patricia didn’t have any more problems with her appendix since it was taken out, obviously, so they were very happy.
They also bought a boat, which they have been wanting for about 12 years. They forgot all of the places that they hid money so they lost about 1.2 million dollars at the house that I live in now. That 40,000 dollars is only some of the money that they lost here. There is more money hidden in this house. They had the money in so many secret places that they forgot where all they put the money and they didn’t write down the different places that they put the boxes of money.
Anyway, I was told not to look specifically for the rest of the money because that shouldn’t be our first priority. We are only allowed to find it when we are cleaning. Thankfully we were able to keep it since no one wanted it, we asked the family and no one was interested. Then, my parents asked me if I wanted it… I was really surprised that they would just let me have it. I told them that I would use it for my first car, college, and anything else I would need to survive. They were really surprised that I didn’t want to spend it on a new Xbox or an Iphone X.
