The Wrong Suitcase

Last week I went to New York and it was a once in a life experience, all because of the wrong suitcase. I would finally be in New York City tomorrow. I was ecstatic, but once I got on the flight, that enthusiasm quickly went away. During the flight, there was a baby who was screaming and crying the entire trip. There were also a couple in an altercation who was not too loud but were sitting directly in front of me so I heard quite clearly. Everyone was exhausted after getting off the plane, especially me. I had not slept the night before because of the anticipation so I could barely function when I was looking for my bag. It was not too fancy, just a mediocre, maroon suitcase with a black handle. I finally got the suitcase and stepped into a taxi that was heading for the hotel I was staying in. I should have checked the label on the bag because if I had, I would have realized that it was not my bag, but I did not expect anyone else to have the same bag as me. Once I got to the hotel and settled in, I opened my suitcase to change and realized that I made a horrible mistake. The suitcase I had grabbed was filled with feathers. Nothing but different colored feathers floating out of the suitcase because of the way I opened it. I was expecting to see all of my possessions and belongings, but there were only feathers. I was in an awful dilemma but grateful to at least have my phone with me from the plane. I searched through the whole bag thinking this had to be some sort of joke or at least a way to switch my bag back. I finally thought to look on the outside of the bag because sometimes there are name cards for this very reason. When I saw a name and phone number I was relieved beyond belief. The name on the card John Mayer seemed a little familiar, but I brushed it off and called the number right away. John answered the phone and I told him that I think I took his suitcase, and he said he took mine. His voice sounded familiar too, but again, I ignored it. Then, all of a sudden, he sounded irate. He began admonishing me for opening his suitcase and ruining all of his feathers. John told me that if there was even one feather missing, he would not return my suitcase. I assured him that I did not take or lose any of his feathers and that they would all still be in the suitcase. We planned to meet in Central Park at 3:00 p.m. that day to switch bags. After he hung up the phone, I thought about how this was the strangest thing that had ever happened to me. I got to the spot we were going to meet about 5 minutes early to make sure I would not be late and was relieved because I would soon get all of my things back. When I got there, however, I was extremely surprised to see my best friend waiting for me with my suitcase. I was thrilled when she explained that she had done all of this to surprise me because we were going to spend the week in New York together! She knew what my suitcase looked like because she helped me pack, so she bought an identical one and filled it with feathers. She put the card with the name and number on it. The name and voice had sounded so familiar because it was her cousin that I had met before who lives in New York. The week was so fun with her there, but the most memorable thing about it was the way she arrived and the wrong suitcase.
