3 Missed text messages
my phone vibrates in my
pocket, alerting me to
a missed message.
the first is from my mom,
sent this morning.
each word is spelled out
she has written so much
that her message is cut off.
something about grades and
what is for dinner tonight.
Delete.
the second is from my new
best friend.
i read this text a little
more carefully than the first.
party 2nite! C u there!
Delete.
3rd message recieved.
the number is unfamiliar.
my eyes scan the blue screen.
my face illuminated by the
phone's glow,
expression slowly changing,
tears,
anger,
fear,
then...
nothing.
emptiness fills the void
that had so suddenly
consumed me.
she's gone.
her last words to me, contained
in a message.
I never got to say goodbye
or tell her I loved her.
anger.
no one cared enough to call me,
except for one of her co-workers
who cared enough to text me.
i will do what i couldn't do for her and
Save.
