A girl was born today, blind.

When she grew up, her favorite stories and rhymes always talked about the stars floating in the sky.

She always talked about being able to see and looking at the orbs of light above her.

After a while, she noticed that whenever she walked in the room, people stopped talking. Though she did catch the words ‘light’ and ‘sky’ and ‘stars.’

She just thought they didn’t believe she could see.

For her twenty first birthday, she’s gifted with sight after a very difficult laser surgery.

Her parents tried to stop her from running outside to the sky but her dreams pulled towards the door.

Heart pounding she opens her eyes and looks up.

The sky was acrid, death black, nothing could pierce through the forbidding barrier.

Her stars were gone.

This is my favorite poem of yours, by far.
