The Last Goodbye
“Jason I need your help”, said Molly coming from their closet.
“What is it sweetheart?”
“Which dress should I wear tonight?” She has always been worried about what she wore.
“I like the short black one, as he was getting ready.” They were going to a wedding for Molly’s cousins wedding.
“Do I look okay?” she worried.
“Fascinating! I love that dress on you, you look so great! Jason said.
As they were leaving the house, they got stopped by every red light they came to, and the traffic was bad. Molly thought they were going to be late for the wedding. When they got there, the line of cars was so long.
“Are we ever going to find a spot to park? Jason yelled.
His road rage was getting out of hand. Molly hated when he would yell out in the car, it would scare the heck out of her!
“Jason calm down, we will find a spot to park!”
After the wedding was over Molly felt very sick to her stomach. She ran to the bathroom and started to throw up. She hated getting sick. Jason started in after her.
“Molly are you okay? What happened? Why are you sick?”
“Jason I’m fine I guess it’s just something I ate.” But she knew exactly what it was. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer a few years ago. They got back in the car on there way home and she remembered her doctor’s appointment with Doctor McGill tomorrow. She had to go to it.
“Jason, I have a Doctors appointment tomorrow,” she said with shakiness in her voice.
“Why? do you need me to go with you?” He asked worriedly.
“Oh, no it’s fine; you need to get your hours in for work anyway. It is no big deal, just a checkup. He didn’t know any thing about her cancer.
“Okay baby I hope everything is okay.” He said with a calm tone.
Going to the doctor she was thinking, ‘what if it got worse?, will he ever want to be with me anymore’? She got to the Doctors office and she waited in the waiting room for about fifteen minutes. Finally Doctor McGill called her back in into his office.
“How have you been feeling?” he asked in an awkward way.
“I have been okay, just worried.”
The doctor just looked at her wondering why she is worried.
“Worried about what? He asked, as she started tearing up.
“If he will ever love me again, he does not know about my cancer.
“Well Molly, we will get you checked out, maybe it is just the same as last time.”
They did a lot of test on her. And now she is waiting on the results.
“Knock, Knock” Doctor McGill came in and said, “Molly I honestly do not know how to say this.” Molly started crying.
“What is it Doctor, I just can’t handle this anymore.
“The cancer has been spreading for a while now I do not think there is anything we can do.
“There isn’t anything I can take to make me better?”
“I am afraid not Molly, you only have six weeks to live” Oh, Dear God please don’t do this to me.” She prayed, why does this have to happen to me?”
She checked out of the doctor’s office and got back in her car.; On her way home she called her mom.
“Mom,” she is franticly crying.
“Molly what is wrong?” her mom cried.
“Mom I’m going to die, Doctor McGill said I only have six weeks to live. My cancer is spreading fast and I don’t know how to tell Jason. Mom I am very sick.”
“It will be okay Molly.” She said crying.
“Mom, do not cry for me I’m not worth crying for. Please stop it will be okay.”
“Okay baby, I love you!” she said as she hung up.
When she got home, she didn’t want to go in because Jason was there. She didn’t want him to see her crying. She thought, ‘I can’t go in there’, as she looked up she sees him coming outside and before she knows it he is knocking on her widow.
“What’s wrong Hun? Why are you crying?”
“Jason I have to tell you something, but I don’t know how.”
“You know you can tell me any thing.” He said as he picked her up out of the car. He carried her in the house and sat her down on the couch.
“Jason, I have had cancer for quite a while, I never had the nerve to tell you.” She just started crying even more, as Jason was hugging her.
“Why did you not tell me Molly? Did you think I was going to be mad at you or something?”
“I didn’t say anything because I thought you were going to leave me.” Molly said as she was wiping her tears. All she could do is just sit there
“For Gods sake Molly I would never leave you. I am in love with you.” He said as he kissed her for-head. Later on that night Jason told molly that they were going out somewhere fancy and that she needed to dress nice.
“Where are we going?” She said as she got in the car and put her seatbelt on.
“I hope you like Italian,” which was her favorite food in the world!
“Pete and Sam’s Bar and Grill? You know that’s my favorite Italian place to eat!”
“Alright fine. Yes were gong to eat there.” He said as he was driving down the highway. When they got there he picked the little booth in the corner. He sat across from her like always. He started telling her how much he loved her.
“Molly grace Patterson, I love you with all my heart and I want you to be mine for ever.” He gets down in one knee and says “Molly will you marry me and be mine forever?”
Molly just looks at him and says, “Jason why? Even if I only have a couple weeks to live you still want to marry me? She said as she started crying.
“Yes Molly, I have always wanted to ask you this.”
“Yes Jason, goodness yes.” Molly gave him a big hug and said, “I will love you forever!”
The next morning she woke up with pain in her lower stomach. She got up and went to the bathroom and started throwing up. She yelled for Jason and he ran up the stairs. She couldn’t breath.
“What do I do?” he said as he was in tears. He didn’t know what to do! He picked her up and ran her to the car. As he was putting Molly in the car he said, “You are going to be okay.” As they got to the emergency room they took her back and Jason wanted to go back with her but the doctors wouldn’t let him. So he goes and sits in the waiting room and calls his parents and hers. They come up to the hospital, and ask what happened. There really scared for her. Finally after two in a half hours, Doctor McGill comes out and says, “She wants to see you Jason.” So Jason hops up and says, “I am going first!” he gets in the room and says, “Oh my goodness, why did you have to do this God? She looked pretty bad.
“Hey Molly,” He said as he knelt down beside her. She looked up at him and smiled.
“Hey Jason, I am going to be alright.” She said in a whisper. “I’ll be in a better place soon.” Doctor McGill went and got the parents, and he said, “Jason you need to leave”
“No I am not leaving!” he said in a loud tone. “I am okay, Jason. I am sorry for not telling you, I just didn’t want to see you like this. I love you Jason! I will love you forever! Mom thank you for everything I love you so much. I love you Jason I have no idea what I would do with out you.” She told them as she took her last breath. Jason just sat there crying into her shoulder as she lied on the bed. Days went on and Jason literally died.
As the depression flowed through his body he didn’t want a privilege to wake up the next morning. Broken and torn, never being able to be with her again.
