Silent Stars
Laying under the stars, life seemed to drift away. As if nothing was around, Stephanie felt her breaths become shallow. She knew what was coming, but she would never let it happen under florescent lights and beeping symphonies. No one had to know out here. She could finally be alone without tears and fake support.
“Everything will be okay,” everyone tried to tell her, but she knew the truth. The monster residing inside her would soon take over. She wasn't afraid of the inevitable. The moon shone bright and she let her thoughts float away with the flickering lightning bugs. She felt chill bumps come over her from the chill night air. Her eyes became heavier. Maybe she could just take a nap and sleep it all away.
Leaves blew past her ears and frogs jumped in the pond. It was time.
“I’m ready,” she told the universe. Slowly she found herself falling asleep. The stars shone bright, but tonight, they were silent. The earth lost one of its most precious lights.
