A Confused School
Tomorrow is the day, it was actually all coming together. We were finally going to do this. After months of planning that sparked after one joke that slowly became an idea which became a plan. Our scheme to let the students get less work and more breaks.
After taking away our spring break and making us do extra work and projects, while every other school near us had their vacations, nearly all of the students backed us up. All of the math department assigned a paper due in one week from now, with a PowerPoint presentation of your topic. The social studies department also assigned a group project to make a yearbook for history, including important people and having it in chronological order also due in one week from now. There was also a SAT over that weekend, so most people didn’t have time for this school work. Not only did everyone have these two huge projects, but many other teachers were giving a lot of work, to start reviewing for finals. The students were never actually going to protest, but this pushed us over the edge.
A few months ago, rumors started to spread that a group of kids were protesting not getting our break and they didn’t come to school for a week. This idea started to spread throughout the school more and more, and eventually it became talked about by everyone. There was a group chat between all of the juniors in the school, and once one person started to complain bout their work load, the frustration built up. Someone brought up the idea of protesting, and an overwhelming amount of people were on board with the idea. The class president, I, the other vice president, the treasurer, and the secretary were hesitant to the idea at first, but we agreed that we should do it. All of the projects were due on Monday, April 25th, so no one would come into school that day. This would not only help replace one of our days of break, but it would give us more time to do these assignments and prepare for them... On Tuesday when we came into school all the students agreed to pretend that we didn’t know about the math project, and it was never discussed. The social studies teachers all went over the yearbook beforehand, yet we would still try to mess with them. We all agreed to pretend that the due date was on Wednesday, instead of on Tuesday, making the teachers even more confused. We hope that by not showing up to school and not doing any of or work that the teachers will realize that the give we way more work than we can handle, and sometimes we need breaks to relax and focus on studying on other things such as SATs. We know that the teachers will try to take off points and that they will all be mad at us, yet if no one does it and we convince them that they never told us, they really can’t do much. Everyone took out their packets and notes on what the projects were, and everyone is in on the joke. There are some people who disagree and think we should all be able to manage t=our work better, and they still want to come to school or rat us out. We deleted those few people from group texts and got rid of all the messages about it, so that we wouldn’t be able to be caught. We even elected people in other grades to be spies for us and tell us who comes to school on monad, so that everyone in my grade would be able to tell how our plan to trick the teachers went. Although there are a few renegades and stragglers, the majority of the grade will be listening to our idea, and the students will finally be standing up for something they truly believe in, since school work dictates how we live our lives.
