The One
I am at a point in my life where I am realizing that not every nice-looking boy that calls me pretty or smart or interesting is "the One." What does it mean to be "the One?" Is it eternal friendship, a relationship, marriage? And what are those labels when you forgo the promises they entail? A boy that lives across an ocean and expects you to swim the whole to him yourself is not "the One." A boy who forces himself on you but is too embarrassed to claim you is not "the One." A boy that wants you but gives up on you is not "the One." It kills me to hear my friends, their friends, speak of devoting their lives to boys who take advantage, who use and abuse and then stowe away for later. I want to scream from the rooftops that you are not who loves you, you are not who claims to love you. You are not the sum of your admirers and received compliments. You deserve more than broken promises and one-sided relationships. And when the lonliness begins to creep in just remember that you were you, and you were okay, before he loved you. You are still you when he is not paying attention. When he leaves you, you still have yourself. Your whole self.
