Where Could Home Be?
Its a weird love/hate relationship. The country side. Many kids want to grow up and move away. But I’ve had that experience. I can tell you, up here you can’t order sweet tea. Nobody even knows how to make it properly. Everything is boring here, to everyone. They run out of things to do. But in the south theres never a dull moment. The winters are still summer, so you can still manage to go camping. Instead of just samll talk, everyone already knows everyone. You talk about what Peggy did at church, or how Mrs. Lindsey May is getting a divorce and they’ve only been married for two weeks. The place where ‘bless er’ heart’ is a bad thing. It seemed so boring at the time. It seemed like a wonderful thing to move. But I miss the birds singing in the morning. I miss ordering tea and always getting it sweet. The place where “Yes ma’am, no ma’am, yes sir, no sir” is just a sign of respect. I miss those big open fields. I miss the family dollar store. I miss the creeks, discovering leeches. I miss the railroad. I miss the pray for rain. I miss the accents. I love that everyone can pronounce crayon correctly. The set ways of boys and girls. The horses. The dogs. Walmart sold puppies. Most of all, fireflies. I miss my home.

I wrote this article because of my teacher. She gave us a prompt about someone who has never lived in the country before. I’m from a small town in the south, and she had picked this prompt for me. She knows I miss it there, and Colorado will never be my full home. This article came straight from my heart. I just kept writing, I didn’t stop to think about it.
