Blue eyes peeked opened from behind their curtain. She let her eyes wander to the alarm clock, it read 9:58 am. She sighed and slowly sat up, taking in her surroundings. She smiled at the photographs of her and her daughter Emily from the moment she was born until now when she is 12. Her daughter had chocolate brown eyes and dirty blonde hair. She stood up and put on her fluffy blue robe and slippers. She walked downstairs to be greeted by the sweet smell of tea. She let the aroma guide her to the kitchen. She spotted a steaming cup on the counter. Her husband must have put it out for her before he went to work. She picked up the cup of tea and grabbed the book she started and decided to sit down to a cup of tea and a book out on her patio to enjoy the brisk autumn morning when she felt the hairs on the back of neck stand up. She looked around feeling like someone was watching her. She shook her head ‘I must be going crazy’ she thought. With a chuckle, she grabbed to handle to the patio.

“LILY” she heard a voice shout.

“W-who’s there” she looked all around trying to find anything to put her mind at ease.

She heard running up the stairs in the basement and sighed thinking that must’ve been it. The door flew opened and a woman appeared. She looked to be in her forties with chocolate brown eyes and dirty blonde hair.

“Who are you?” Lily questioned.

“My names Emily,” the woman said with a smile.

Lily smiled briefly thinking of her young daughter, “What are you doing here?”

“I’m here to take care of you,” Emily said smiling but it didn’t reach her eyes.

“But why I need no help,” Lily asked confused.

Emily smiled sadly “I’m just here to make sure you don’t”

“Did my husband hire you?” Lily asked agitatedly.

Emily hesitated not quite sure what to say. “Don’t you remember I was here yesterday?” Emily stated trying to politely avoid the question.

“Oh, um. of course, I do” Lily said trying to convince herself more than Emily. They both went on their way, the tea and book completely forgotten of the table by the door.

Lily decided to take a nice bath to clear her head. She went into the bathroom down the hall and quietly shut the door behind her and leaned her forehead against it. She sighed and turned around feeling silly for being so bothered by that conversation. She looked up and chocked back a scream, standing in front of her is her loving husband. She froze, her eyes wide in fear.

She let out a small laugh, “God, Thomas I thought you were at work.” She reached up to move some hair from in front of his eye and gasped when her hand went through him.

“Thomas?”, She questioned with fear in her voice.

“Why don’t you remember Lil, I’m not here anymore”, Thomas answered in an eerie voice.

She looked at him confused, “What do you mean, of course your still here I’m looking right at you”

Thomas sighed like he’s been through this conversation too many times, “No Lily I died in 1989 when Emily was 14 and you were 35. I died of a heart attack”

She looked at him horrified, “What are you talking about its only 1987?”

Thomas looked at her with sympathy, “No lily its 2018”

She looked conflicted, not quite sure what to believe.”

Thomas smiled sadly, “I just needed to tell you that, I just want you to remember and to remember our beautiful girl out there.” He pointed his finger out the door.

She looked to where he’s pointing, “What, but that can’t be her-”, She looked back at him only to find an empty space. She shook her head trying to make sense of what just happened. She walked over to the sink, turned on the faucet and splashed some water on her face trying to cool herself. She signed and looked up. She screamed as she didn’t recognize the face staring back. She knew she was beginning to look older but the face she’s looking at is in at least there 60s. She didn’t even hear the footsteps rushing towards her. Her head was starting to throb from the memories slowly coming back at her piece by piece. All the things she’s done, the good, the bad, the ugly. She feels to the floor clutching her head as her mind felt like it was becoming whole again. The door flung open, crashing against the wall.

Emily, the woman from before came into view, “Are you alright?”

“You knew something was wrong with me didn’t you?” Lily looked at her accusingly.

Emily looked down, “Yes”

“When were you going to tell me you're my little Emmy” Lily questioned sadly.

Emily smiled with one that finally reached her eyes, “Mom it’s not just something you tell someone with sort of problem.”

Emily crouched down, “How about we have some tea and talk about it.”

Lily grinned, “I’d like that” And that’s what they did, talked and Looked through old photo albums. Talked about everything and anything, the good and the bad, the important things and the silly things all afternoon. They walked upstairs laughing at the joke Emily made.

Emily smiled sadly knowing what’s about to happen, “Goodnight mom, I love you.”

Lily hoped into bed pulling the covers up, “Goodnight sweetie, I love you too”

Emily placed a kiss on her others forehead and sighed as she turned out the light. Lily smiled as the last thing she saw was her daughters face before she went into blissful slumber.

Blue eyes peeked opened from behind their curtain. She let her eyes wander to the alarm clock, it read 9:58 am. She sighed and slowly sat up, taking in her surroundings.
