I take a smoke out of my pack and light it.
The flame from the match quickly dies,
Only burning ash remains.
There’s no reason to try and quit.


Knowing that something can hurt you, but continuing is weak.
Yeah cigarettes can cause cancer,
but the pain you cause me is worse; my lung with a slow leak.

You hurt my heart in a different way,
Cancer is preferable. less personal.
Desire is the flame; it is soon gone. (darkness remains)there is no love for you but yet,
here I am begging, praying you will stay…

I cry out pathetically.
“Stay only one more day.”

Relief fills my lungs when I inhale,
Avoiding the chemicals is easy.
The smoke tastes better than air,
I hold it in my lungs until it is stale.



Exhale.


Relief fills my limbs when we kiss,
I’m closing my eyes.
you never really look at me --
Does it matter? you are pure evil, a slithering serpent yet I still desire your hiss.

The smoke thickens in my mouth.
I cough. The pleasure has become tainted,
Only the butt of the cigarette is left
I could smoke forever, forget good health.


Ash remains. It seems you never felt the same.
I am the cigarette you smoked on break.
“Over so quickly?” I ask.
“Back to reality…” you say.


I knew you were only a social smoker,
It was always for show, you never inhaled.
You aren’t addicted like I am, not one bit.


How do I still love you? And Will I ever Quit?
