Our Hallelujah
‘Somehow, everything's gonna fall right into place
if we only had a way to make it all fall faster every day
if only time flew like a dove
God make it fly faster than I'm falling in love’

“Brandon?” I asked timidly as the music continued to play around us. I looked over at him from where I sat at my desk, going around and around in circles. He was reading one of my stories, one of the many I have written, while sprawled across my bed. He had come over for Lasagna Night, his favorite.
 “Yeah, Mycah?” he asked.

‘This time we're not giving up
 Let's make it last forever
 Screaming, "Hallelujah"!
 We'll make it last forever’

I bit my lip. How was I going to tell him? He continued to watch me with his hazel eyes, patient and curious. I stopped spinning, and while my stomach settled from the dizziness, I remembered all the ways I imagined this conversation. None of them was working.

‘Holding on to patience wearing thin
can't force these eyes to see the end
if only time flew like a dove
we could watch it fly and just keep looking up.’

“Um….” Oh, this is so embarrassing. I kept trying to make my mind work, kept trying to find the words. He gazed at me, still waiting.

‘This time we're not giving up
 Let's make it last forever
 Screaming, "Hallelujah"!
 We'll make it last forever’

Oh, please, for whatever that was holy to give me the right words!

‘…and we've got time on our hands
(we've got time on our hands)
got nothing but time on our hands, got nothing but, got nothing but
got nothing but time on our hands!’

 “Mycah?” he asked softly.

‘This time we're not giving up
 Let's make it last forever
 Screaming, "Hallelujah"!
 We'll make it last forever’

“Never mind,” I mumbled. He smiled, showing every one of his straight white teeth. He shook his head a little, still smiling, looking back down at my story.
 “I love you too, Mycah.”
