Opening to a Sci-fi/Fantasy Story

Everything seems more sinister when you are afraid, that's why in my line of work you have the fear trained out of you. But no matter how long you train for no-one can ever be completely fearless. Fear is the one thing from which you cannot hide. I was stupid and thought I was fearless... Oh how wrong I was. For I did not know what lurked in dark corners and hid in closets. Everyone remembers those "stories" you got told when you were younger about monsters, ghosts and ghouls but when you grow up you know that they weren't real. You were wrong, they're all real.

This is great! It has a ton of potential to make an amazing sci-fi/fantasy story. keep up the great work :)
