"Monotony"
Katie Carter was a vivacious and outgoing girl. She was an average student, usually A and B Honor Roll, and had plenty of friends. She came from a good family: her parents did not fight or argue and they were pretty well off. However, despite all of the good in her life, she was deeply troubled. She believed her life was too monotonous. She did the same thing every day and nothing clearly separated one day from the other. When she graduated high school, she resolved to change her life drastically.
Katie moved to the “Big Apple” to escape her dreary and monotonous life. Hoping to find something more fulfilling, she was disappointed. It turned out that New York City was no different from boring, old Illinois. Even though she had a different job, she had the same monotonous schedule. Everyone she met in New York was different, yet the same. She never felt as if she truly fit in anywhere. Disappointed a little angry, she tried to fill her life with various vices such as drugs, wild parties, and alcohol. It still did not work! She turned to different religions: Buddhism and Hinduism. However, nothing seemed to work. Katie was mad, upset, and flustered. What could she do to fill the hole inside her?
Mr. Carter woke up that morning in Illinois with a strange feeling. He sensed that something bad was going to happen that day. However, while expecting it to be a bad day at work, he actually received a promotion and someone surprised him with a cake and fresh coffee. How strange! He realized he had not heard from Katie in a while, and surprisingly, his wife had not either. When he got home, he saw his wife sitting on the floor in tears with the phone dropping slightly out of her hand. He saw her, and he suddenly knew what had happened…
