We See What we Want to See, Not What's There
I love going to school
Swapping teams because I am eschewed like a leper
I can’t wait for the next day
Everyone is oblivious to the pain in my eyes
Constantly, friends endeavor for my attention
Why do they not see that I laugh from shame, not because their torments are comical
My friends would never say bad things about me
“Mrs. Smith, you promised you’d speak to them”
I love gym class
Shattered like glass, I put duct tape over another fatal wound
People never judge me
I close my eyes and hope the tears will purify my tarnished memories like rain on dirt
Every day is full of sunshine
I should say something, but it’s never helped before
I tell my family how I really feel
I am burning alive inside and need to do something
Playing team sports with friends is a total stress reliever
Sticks and stones may break may bones, but it’s words that truly kill me
