Mary-Ann and the Valentine
I volunteered at a home for old people in Feburary, and was responsible for watching over a woman named Mary-Ann. Valentine's Day was still fast approaching, and we were all told to help out make valentines with the residents for their families. Mary-Ann, taking her time, made a very simple heart, with the words "LOVE" scattered throughout the valentine. I'm very sure her parents will enjoy the valentine, she was the only person to get any mail from their family of the 20 residents.
And while there was the beautiful side to Mary-Ann, there was the not-so-beautiful side. When the assistant unlocked the door to pick up Mary-Ann, she wasn't clothed at all apparently, according to all the screams coming from the both of them. She also couldn't hear a lot when one of the volunteers called out Jingo squares. It seems scary to me that the mind can degenerate to such a state where that kind of stuff happens to you.
So when you are older, do you just find a happy place, such as the past, and stay there? My grandpa, who passed away recently, would only want to talk about the past and his memories in his last year of life. And Mary-Ann was probably one of the strongest people at the home, she was the only one to wheelchair herself to the valentine table. It seems scary that I will be like this one day, what do you think?
