As I read “Good-Bye, American Dream” by Lauren Wagner, I recognized how terrified I am of my parents getting a divorce. The author starts the article describing how her family was once perfect, saying, “I lived inside the American Dream for the first nine years of my life, and it was wonderful.”  She goes on to explain how even though her parents promised to never get a divorce, some promises are broken.  As she says “I remember thinking my family was so close that we could never break apart. At six, I didn’t know that ‘marriage’ didn’t mean ‘forever,’” I realized that I think my family is incredibly close, and I could never imagine us breaking apart. It would be horrifying to have my family break up like the author’s did.
