I can relate to “Where Home Is” by “Sarah” in the January issue, where she describes where she grew up. In my culture, Navajo, home is where your umbilical cord is buried. I grew up on the Navajo reservation, Coyote Canyon, New Mexico.

“When people think of home, they think of places where they experience childhood and sketch their sprouting growth on the wall,” Sarah writes. Home is where you’re brought up and where you are raised. Nobody should be ashamed of where they are from. The way I can describe my home up north is clean air, sheep grazing, and my grandparents being who they are. My grandpa still works with cattle and hauls water at the age of 85. My grandma is the most lovable, tough lady on earth. No matter where I am, I will always find myself wanting to go back home.
