American Dream
The American Dream is a dream that surpasses all other dreams. It’s a dream that Americans devote their life in trying to achieve. The American Dream can only be achieved in America. The American Dream is used in a way to support and motivate the person to work his or hers hardest until the day they finally believe that they have achieved their dreams. For people seeking a new start in life, the American Dream helps them to keep going with the continuous hope of happiness and joy in life. The American Dream has to be something big, something the person knows that they might never achieve in their lifetime but they are still determine to have it. There isn’t just one specific American Dream that everyone has; it is endless only defined by the person. Someone could wish for a house and a family, while someone else could just wants to make a lot of money and have an easy life. It isn't something that is easily achievable, it would take a long time and hard work to get even close to the dream but there isn't a guarantee that you will ever achieve your dreams. The American Dream is the hope of having a better life than the one you have now.
The American Dream is unique only in America where new begins happen. People came to America in hopes that they will achieve this “American Dream”. When immigrants started to come to America they had the hopes of getting their own piece of the American Dream. De Crevecoeur quoted “ubi panis ibi patria” which translates to “where my bread is earned, their is my country”. De Crevecoeur states that it doesn't matter where you originally came from, as long as you know where your new life is. People came over to America for a new start and a new life. The American Dream can only be achieved in America. Immigrants from all over the world came to America in the hoped for a better life with new opportunities they wouldn't have imagined back in their country. Generally when immigrants come to America they want to have a better life. They usually come from a country where jobs and education are scarce; so they come over in the hopes that they will find a new and better job as well as make a better life with many opportunities for their family. This fascination of the American Dream lead to people from all over the world coming to have their own fair share of the American Dream. The people that came over to America had the had the hope of one day achieving the American Dream and they would stop at nothing to achieve their dreams in their new home. The American Dream was based on new beginnings and hopes of the people that came over to America.
The American Dream is determined by the people rather than the country. There isn't just one American Dream that everyone pursues. The American Dream is as unique as the person chasing after it. In Ferrera’s article “What is an American” states that “An American is English…or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Australian, Iranian, Asian, or Arab, or Pakistani, or Afghan.” It shows that Americans aren't made up of a single group of people, but rather a mixture of people from all across the world. So the people determine what the American Dream is because everyone is so different from each other. Their religion, race, background, morals, and so on; everyone is different from one another no one has the same life or same experiences. Someones’ dream could be as simple as owning a house and have a family, or wanting to make a lot of money. It can also be unique like owning a business, become a star athlete, or even a celebrity. Their isn't just one American Dream that everyone strives for but rather everyone has his or her own unique dream. The American Dream is determine by the personality of the person, it is uniquely custom to the persons dreams and wishes.
The American Dream isn’t something that will instantly appear out of thin air, it will take a lot time and effort to try to achieve it. You need to work for it; the American Dream can only be achieved through determination, dedication, and passion. “An American is anyone who understands that to achieve the best in life requires action, exertion, effort” quoted by Hudgins in “What is an American”. He’s stating that Americans have to work hard to achieve things in life. That Americans know that to achieve happiness they need to get pass all the struggle and hardship. They need to show their determination and give it their all until they finally reached their American Dream or they can no longer obtain it. To reach the American Dream, you would need to keep giving it your all, do whatever it takes to obtain it, and never giving up on it. The American Dream has to be something the person is passionate about or else it wouldn't be a dream. To achieve their American Dream they need to be ready to face any challenges put between them and their dream.
The American Dream isn’t just a dream. It’s a hope for happiness, wealth, or whatever you desire. It’s a dream that inspires people from all over the world to come to America and chase after their own American Dream; in hope that they can start a new life. The reason why people keep chasing after their American Dream until the end. Everyone's American Dream is different and unique from each other. Since no one is the same, it would be true that everyone has different dreams and goals from one another. Making everyone's American Dream unique from everyone else. To achieve the American Dream it takes a lot of hard work as well as time and effort to get close to seeing it in real life.
