Dear Teen Ink,

In my school I would like to change the infraction system. A infraction at our school is like a slip of paper that you get if you forget or don’t do your homework, disrespect a teacher, ect. It doesn’t help any, I know the first time I got an infraction I was worried. I forgot to do my homework so I had to get a 3 point infraction and a lunch detention. I try my best to do well in school but I think the infraction system doesn’t work that well. I got through the lunch detention, and it actually wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. But that has nothing to do with it.

Some people don’t care. They get an infraction and since they have so many they don’t care anymore. People don’t take them as seriously. People don’t respect the system now because if it’s so often that you could get an infraction.

Would you be more afraid of getting an infraction if it’s more likely or unlikely? Unlikely, right, because more kids don’t get infractions. You would be able to tell at my school how much people cared about the infraction system last year compared to this year. I am in 7th grade and I remember in 5th grade when it started and it was really bad if you got one because barely anyone would get a infraction. But now if you got one you would be not as bad as it would be if you got one in the 5th grade. People don’t take it as seriously, it just doesn’t work.
