The Things That I Don't Need
You can have my phone
I’d rather talk in person
You can take my backyard
The world is my playground
You can keep my toys and my games
I can use my imagination
You can steal my food
My true hunger is for knowledge
You can accept my belongings and trinkets
They are more representations of meaning and value
You can even pilfer my house
It may be my house but it isn’t truly my home
You can take all these things from me and I wouldn’t miss them
But there are some things that you cannot take
You cannot strip me of my hope or my pride
You cannot take away my right to stand up against injustice
You cannot take away my freedoms and my beliefs
You cannot destroy my memories
Those are mine to keep
You cannot separate me from my family
They are the thing that matters the most
Many things in life aren’t important
Many are just made to seem that way
But are more symbolic for what is important
When you really think about it
I mean really think
And dig way down deep within yourself
You find that
Happiness isn’t made up of owning the most or being the wealthiest
In fact
Many of the happiest people are those
Without tons of money and mountains of material goods
The people seen as being the least wealthy are actually the wealthiest
In other ways
At least
That’s how I see it
