The Unfortunate Story of Nick and John
The Unfortunate story of Nick and John
Love. Hate. They are the sugar and salt of human emotions. People use them every day without even realizing it. They wield immense power, enough to move mountains, and shift seas. In order to maintain peace within one’s self, you must utilize both equally; there will always be both. Too much love and you become blind to the lies and deceitfulness of others. Too much hate and you shut out the people who really want to help you. If you over use either, you will make brash, and emotional decisions without thinking.
Nickolas is Father’s best friend, a tall and skinny 37 year old man. He has hair as curly as a young boy, yet the color of charcoal. Even though he is Father’s “brother” he’s not a disrespectful snob, like the rest of dad’s friends. John is my brother, a 9th grader with hair the color of snow, and skin like ice. I woke up on just any other Monday. Father is nowhere to be seen, and the arguing between mother and John hasn’t started so I should get to the bus stop as soon as possible. Father is probably downstairs cleaning the bar. I don’t know why he keeps that old thing. Is it to get his beer free or talk to his friends? Dad says it’s to make money. However there are better ways to make money than letting disgusting drunks into our house so they can get even more drunk and obnoxious. So I try to avoid Father as much as possible in the morning. I manage to get my hygiene done and get out the door before the arguing starts. Even though the bus stop is on the street corner I can still vaguely hear what they are saying.
“Mother do I have to go to school,” said John. “Of course,” replied mother. “But…no one likes me,” John moaned. Then mother shouts, “Deal with it you don’t go to school to make friends. If only you could be as tolerable as your brother. Now get to that dang bus stop before you’re late!” “Ok mother,” said john. John finally caught up. “What, no lecture.” “John there’s only so many times a person can say something before they stop caring.” “Good stay out of it.” The bus arrives, we get on I notice that John received dirty looks from a group of guys in the back of the bus. Jack, is a guy who looks like he tears on his cloths just to look cool. “Hey snow white, here to take up a bus seat with your useless butt,” Jack said mockingly. “Hey Jack here to smoke pot and be a witless idiot the rest of your life,” I reply. “Hey whatever man,” said Jack. Jack backs down and returns to the back of the bus. “Hey you can’t just let them push you around like that,” I say. John replied, “What can I do against them?” “You’d be surprised.”
When we return home there are cops surrounding the place. Several people are being arrested, yet surprisingly Father is not one of them. Before I can utter a single word Father cuts me of and says, “Thanks to a couple of idiots you have to clean the bar.” “Come on Father.” “CLEAN THE BAR!” Father then walks over to John and starts chatting about never giving money to crooks. Then I hear him say, “Son, who knows, if your brother can manage to keep the bar clean, it could be yours someday.” “Take a long walk off a short peer,” I mumbled. By the time I got this stupid bar clean its 9:00. As I start putting away, I notice Nick talking to a beautiful woman. I think her name was Jane. She has long, glossy brown hair, and looks like she could be found on the red carpet posing for her next photo. Then they start laughing. I turn to John and say “That’s the fakest laugh I’ve heard in my entire life.” John busts out laughing as well. “Wait, what’s her name,” John said. Jane, I replied. “Oh,” said John. After Jane leaves John walks over to Nick and says, “Dude are you really this stupid.” “Are you really this much of a jerk,” replied Nick “She’s using you like the last guy,” John implied. Nick shouted, “No she isn’t!” “Ok,” said John as he went back up stairs.
(1 year later)
I can’t believe they have been dating this long, I said to john. John sighed, “Dude I told you Nick wasn’t getting married until 9 months have passed.” ”I can understand why Jane waited this long, I mean, Nick is a neurosurgeon.” Yah and he’s got to make around 600,000 bucks a year, I say. “Wait, how did you know that?” I looked it up. John looked at me silently, then said, “Their wedding is today, and guess who didn’t get invited.” You, I said. “No genius, neither of us.” Then I’m going to the arcade if you want to come. “Sure,” said John enthusiastically. We were at the arcade for about thirty minutes, when we saw Jack hypnotized by a shooter game. We were about to turn our tickets in when Jack pushed John from behind. John slowly turned, glaring so menacingly that it could make the devil wet himself and run. Then, with a flash of John’s hand, Jacks neck oozed a dark, red, blood… When John’s hand dropped, I saw Father’s 2 inch survival knife. Astonishingly a police officer was in the arcade that day, with his ten year old daughter. Her blood curtailing scream was the scariest, and most memorable thing about that day. To this day I have never heard any animal, let alone a human make that noise. The cop said to his wife, “Take care of her for a minute.” He drew his gun on my brother, “DROP THE KNIFE,” he shouted. My brother, already knowing what to do, dropped the blade, and put his hands behind his back, and the cop arrested him.
A week later, just like John said, Jane dumped Nick, and left him with nothing, not even a penny. John was tried as an adult, and got a thirty year prison sentence. As the cops took him away John turned his head to me and said, “You were right, I’d be surprised at what I can do.” I turned my head to the floor and sighed.
