My Sweet Tooth
Some sweet treats I like to eat,
They pick me up and my heart beats
In perfect rhythm with
All the rest of the world.
But when I’m hungry afterwards
And all the world still seems absurd-
But minus the warm acceptance
Of it inside my soul-
It’s then that I think to myself
I should leave sweets on the shelf
And not have to deal with
This deepening inner hole.
Although a lifetime of great adventures
Graced my mind, thanks to these elixirs
Once dessert now becomes the meal,
The after-taste is often bitter.
Did I order this meal today?
And do I wish
For this side dish
To dominate the tray?
Once complimenting
Now dissenting,
Makes all else dull grey.
I’ve got this sweet-tooth,
And it’s killing me.
My appetite for what’s right,
Isn’t what it used to be.
I seek dessert to cure my hurt
And make me feel no grief,
But now the meat I didn’t eat
Provides my hunger no relief.
If I were brave, hadn’t misbehaved
Then this candy I might not crave.
But what am I to do about it all now?
For once a mind has been expanded,
Taken for a ride and landed
Will it ever be the same after exclaiming “Wow!”
What desperation they can’t know,
Those who never chose to go:
When sugarcane is on the brain
And nothing else will do.

You made 'sweet tooth' mean so much more, in my opinion that's a hall mark of talent. That term will never be the same to me.
I really like your form here, it creates a fulid regularity that is juxtaposed with the ideas you're putting forward.
