How to debate religion in four easy steps:

"You are stupid."

"Your ideas are stupid."

"People from your group are stupid."

"You shouldn't judge me!"


How to debate politics in four easy steps:

"You are stupid."

"Your ideas are stupid."

"People from your group are stupid."

"You shouldn't judge me!"


Then just walk away. And that's all you need to know.

This is not how I debate politics or religion, goodness no! XD But this is the gist of the comments I see on religious or political debates. Rather than the ideas being attacked, the people making the statements are attacked, which is one of the first no-no laws of debates and logic. Debate over ideas, people, not who says them. The representation rarely meets the message, and an entire group is going to have bad apples in it; don't see one faction as the whole population of those who hold such ideas. Give the truth a try, and dig for it.
