Opinionated

This is a poem
That I am writing
Not simply to be writing
But simply because I know
That one day some high school
English teacher
Will pull this poem
From one of her huge files
And pass it out to her students
Who will then be told to
Analyze this poem
Using a variety of
Analytical tools
That they will use to
Take apart
Breakdown
Rearrange
This poem I have created
And they will be told to formulate
Opinions
Of this poem
Based on the
Tone
Diction
Syntax
That is used or not used
In this poem
And they will be asked
To share their
Opinions
With the class
But many of them
Will be very reluctant
To share their
Opinions
Because they will believe that
Their (not so) carefully formulated
Opinions
Will be completely and utterly
Wrong
To the point of being
Ridiculous
And they will then finally be
Right
About something

One of my greatest pet peeves is all those English teachers who believe that a poem's meaning always goes beyond the surface, yet the poem still has to fit into a perfect mold that the teacher has crafted.

I can really relate to this one!!! April is Poetry month at my school....and I love to write poems, but knowing my English Teacher, I get to use a carefully formatted way of writing the poem and then I get to see if the word "the" has a deeper meaning. i like it. I can so relate :D

Just another casualty.
It's sad but true.
And even dead I'm still ahead
of most of you.

:]

That's all I have to say.
