The wolf pack howls
Upon the frozen peaks
Of the mountain.
They all howl
The same wailling note.
But only one stands out.
It is the voice
Of the Alpha,
leading all.

An Alpha is the leader of a wolf pack. It's usually a male(I thought everyone knew that!). Personally, I'm not in a clique. They're stupid. I have friends, but I don't just stick with them. I'll let anyone be my friend. I was writing this on the sly...I was supposed to be paying attention to my techer. She caught me, so I couldn't revise and add to it. heehee

I like the idea of the wolf, but I think your other one (the lone wolf) was stronger. When you say "alpha," it makes me think of a leader of a group of girls. (i've heard heads of cliques referrred to this way, so that's what sticks in my head.) "the same wailing note," though, is a good line. You could follow it with a description of the wolves themselves - their long, lean bodies, their fur, their sharp claws, or just their mouths.

If the wolf is leading, you can describe his movements leading the rest of the pack through the mountain.
