they tell me to be perfect,

with pretty looks and good manners

       I tell them I'm a misfit,

       carzy and unknown

they tell me to be a diary,

holding all their thoughts and feelings in a tomb

       I tell them I am a pencil

in need of a diary of my own

they tell me to be a river,

free and going with the flow

       I tell them I'm a lake

sitting still and full of sorrow
