One Small Step
Boom - Boom- Boom
Her shoes slam against the grass.
Thump- thump- thump,
Her heart races.
The clouds give no mercy
The sun rays beat down on her
“Come on; You can do better!!”
People in the crowd yell.
Finally, the finish line comes into view,
She finishes
But- she finishes last.
Mother claims she's proud,
But deep down she isn't.
It was just another loss to Mother,
But for the runner,
It was just another step toward her goal.
A year later
The breeze blew,
She ran
She ran like a cheetah across the land,
Catching her dream like the cheetah catches its prey,
Again, the finish line comes up;
She passes through with ease,
She was first,
She won.
Mother claimed she was proud, and she really was.
To Mother it was her first win,
But to the runner,
It was her first of many to come.
