I am a bird

Chained to the earth by old memories

My wings are spread and ready for flight

But the shackles tighten at my attempts to soar free

I am a bird

My home residing amongst the lonesome trees

The sky whispers for a rendezvous

But I am compainonless, no flock to accompany me

I am a bird

The morning sun and I sing to consume Existence's lack of sound

But the sun still continues on with the day

And to dawn, I am bound

I am a bird

And it is my set destiny to be free

But when burdened with this expectation

How free does that really make me?
