Snap
I am a monster.
I was a monster—
Am I still a monster?
I watched her,
Watched myself snap
Under the weight of the words
Of the words
Of those terrible words
They just kept coming
They just kept coming
An onslaught
A gale
A hurricane
They just kept coming
I watched her,
Watched myself snap
Under the weight of the looks
Of the looks
Of those terrible looks
They just kept coming
They just kept coming
An onslaught
A gale
A hurricane
They just kept coming
I watched her,
Watched myself snap
When I stopped
On that page
And tears pooled in my eyes
At the sight of that word
That word which just kept coming
Which just kept coming in bloody red
In onslaughts
In gales
In hurricanes
It just kept coming
I watched her,
Watched myself snap
And decide to grab
Those onslaughts
Those gales
Those hurricanes
And run away with them
Run, run away
I watched her,
Watched myself snap
Under the cruelty
Under the words
Under the looks
The monster emerged
I watched her,
Watched myself snap
And fling the book against the wall
And grab a piece of paper
And write crazed and feverish
And angry and hurt and hopeless
I watched her,
Watched myself snap
And write things
Write horrible things
In order that I may get out of the
Onslaught, gale, hurricane
I watched her,
Watched myself snap
Snap back
After the damage was done
And realize I had trapped another
In the onslaught, gale, hurricane
I watch her,
Watch myself drown
In the onslaught
In the gale
In the hurricane
That which I failed to escape and I
Wonder
How she fares,
How she who I have trapped,
Fares in the onslaught
In the gale
In the hurricane.
