Letter To The Listening
Ears are for listening
Sounds of the wind
Rain
And cries from the earth
Beneath our feet.
Hear their cries hear them now.
Gray hoodie
Dark blue pants
And black shoes.
Yellow tape surrounding
Black bag zzzzzzps shut.
Red the color statined the grounds that boy knew so well.
Hear his heart beating
Listen while it stops.
That last flow of blood that no longer
Is coursing through his veins.
There are shrieking cries coming from across that yellow tape.
A mother gripping her husband by his
Shirt while he stands tall keeping them both afloat.
Ears are for listening
He heard the sounds of the wind
Rain and cries from the earth
Beneath our feet.
He heard the very moment
When the guns that he played with as a child
Shot water are not shooting bullets
And one landed right in his head
Ears are for listening.
